Episode 090

Can shoes impact our feet in ways we never realized?

This week, we welcome Mike and Nick from “The Foot Collective” @thefootcollective, a group of physical therapists focused on foot health around the globe. The FTC helps human beings take better care of their feet by spreading awareness of the problems you didn't even KNOW shoes could cause. Using a combination of social media, their own podcast series and even through clinic and online programs, they're on a mission to help feet worldwide.

In this episode we talk about:

  • What the foot collective is about and what it’s trying to accomplish.

  • How shoes can impact your feet in ways you might have never realized.

  • The history of shoes in society and exploring the relationship they have with fashion.

  • How shoewear can completely numb the sensors of our feet by “blindfolding” them to outside stimuli.

  • How problems that show up on our feet can usually extend to other parts of the body - most commonly the hip.

  • How health care systems may be influencing these issues by only treating the symptoms.

  • The stigma surrounding no shoes in public and how that can create unique experiences (especially in airports).

  • The human body’s nature and ability to adapt to whatever you throw at it.

  • And much, much more.

Enjoy the ride!
